About us...
Cobblestone Coffee is a Micro Coffee Roastery,
founded in Maryland, near the Chesapeake Bay.
We source and roast
only the finest Specialty grade, premium quality Arabica coffees from all
over the world, and ship them fresh to you straight out of the roaster,
preserving freshness and quality in every step of the process.
Our
mission, quite simply, is quality in your cup. Our passion is not only
sharing quality coffees with our customers, but also teaching our
customers about coffee, how it came from the farm to your cup, and the
differences between fresh and stale coffee. 90% of the coffee available
out there today is stale or quickly becoming, and the kicker is that most
coffee drinkers don't realize this!
I once was a stale coffee
drinker, I never really knew that coffee could taste any better than the
stuff that came out of the office coffee pot, or the convenience store or
the gas station down the street, until I discovered the difference that
fresh roasting makes. I have never turned back, and as a matter of fact,
it was because of this amazing difference that Cobblestone Coffee was
born.
We are always searching, always seeking the best of the best
of the Specialty grade coffees, and only those that meet or exceed our
strict palette and quality standards will we make available to you, and
use in our coffee outlets in the future. Sourcing quality coffee is not as
easy as you might think, it's a consistently moving target. In order to
hit the bullseye, you have to continually sample, sample, sample, or as we
call it, cupping.
Regarding the so called "Specialty Coffee"
corporate giants out there, quite frankly, we wouldn't be here if it
weren't for them. Is their coffee good? That's for you to decide. The
difference from my perspective is the same as the difference between the
mass produced beers in this country, versus a hand crafted, passionately
mastered micro brewed beer.
Cobblestone Coffee is a 'Micro
Roastery', meaning we roast our own coffee in our facility, and roast in
very small batches by hand, closely working with each batch as it roasts
to perfection. Hand crafting the roast maintains the human interaction
with the coffee during each batch, whereas the corporate chains mass
produce their coffees by automation, or minimal interaction at best. For
example, a part-time employee of 'Corporate' pushes a button on a huge
machine somewhere, and it goes to work baking tons of coffee using the law
of averages and preset lengths of time and temperature. That employee
waits for the machine to 'ding' at the end of its cycle, and out comes the
coffee. It's an automated process which completely removes the art of hand
craftsmanship of the coffee. Contrast that with Cobblestone's Roaster,
whom is the OWNER of the business, who follows a passion for coffee, and
skillfully perfects each batch by hand on a small batch
roaster.
Second to that, we are local. We are a family owned
and operated business, and will always remain that way to preserve and
maintain our highest quality, neighbor to neighbor style of customer
service and friendliness, our passion for quality products, and our
commitment and loyalty to our customers and surrounding communities.
The corporate chains can't compete with all of this. Besides, everyone
likes to support the home team, right?
Most important though, is
our devotion and dedication to quality. Quality is paramount to
Cobblestone Coffee; it's our passion, it's our mission. We will only serve
the highest quality, super premium coffees to our customers. Only the
coffees that meet or exceed our strict, STRICT quality standards will be
served to our customers. While the chains will focus on sacrificing
whatever it takes to preserve their bottom lines, WE focus on serving
quality coffee, FRESH. By the way, how long ago did those guys roast their
coffee and have it sitting around waiting to be trucked all over the
country, only to have it sit again while it waits to be served in their
stores? ...and they call that fresh
roasted??
